TRA, CTI SEEK JOINT SOLUTION TO RISING CEMENT PRICES

15 September, 2026

The Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI) and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) have held discussions aimed at finding a joint and sustainable solution to the recent increase in cement prices in the country.

Speaking during the meeting held on September 14, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, TRA Commissioner General Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda said the Authority had initiated the engagement with CTI as part of efforts to understand the factors contributing to the rise in cement prices and explore practical measures to address the challenge.

Commissioner General Mwenda said TRA’s mandate extends beyond revenue collection to facilitating trade and investment by creating a conducive business environment. He emphasized that the Authority’s engagement with industry stakeholders is intended to support a stable business environment that benefits both businesses and consumers.

“We have started by engaging the Confederation of Tanzania Industries to jointly explore solutions to the challenge of rising cement prices. I will also engage directly with individual cement manufacturers to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and work towards a sustainable solution to the issue of cement prices,” said Commissioner General Mwenda.

On his part, CTI Chairman Mr. Hussein Sufiani Ali said the Confederation had already begun investigating the factors behind the increase in cement prices. He noted that their assessment had identified reduced production of clinker, a key raw material used in cement manufacturing, as one of the factors contributing to the challenge.

He said the meeting with TRA would strengthen collaboration and enable continued engagement and follow-up among relevant stakeholders in order to identify appropriate measures towards achieving a lasting solution to the rising cement prices.
