24 April, 2026
The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to strengthening service delivery by upholding taxpayer rights, with a focus on transparency, fairness, and timely access to services to enhance efficiency in government revenue collection.
He made the remarks on April 24, 2026, during the Ethics in Tax Administration Conference and the launch of the TRA Stakeholders’ Ethics Platform held at Johari Rotana. Mr. Mwenda noted that TRA operates under a Taxpayer Service Charter that clearly outlines the services offered and the timelines for their delivery.
He emphasized that the Authority will continue to promote awareness of taxpayer rights, including the right to be heard, protection of personal information, equal treatment in accordance with the law, and fair tax assessment based on established procedures.
Mr. Mwenda further explained that every tax assessment must be supported by appropriate documentation to ensure transparency and legitimacy. He also highlighted that TRA has set aside every Thursday as a dedicated day to engage with taxpayers nationwide, providing an opportunity to listen to and address their concerns.
On the other hand, he called on taxpayers to fulfill their obligations by complying with tax laws, including registering their businesses, declaring accurate income, refraining from tax evasion, and cooperating with TRA officials in the course of their duties.
He also underscored the importance of rejecting corruption and issuing receipts for every transaction, noting that such practices promote transparency, build trust, and ultimately contribute to increased government revenue for national development
