The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has met with the management of Geita Gold Mine and Barrick Gold Mine as part of TRA’s continued efforts to engage taxpayers, listen to their concerns and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders in the mining sector.

The meeting, held on September 2, 2026, at the TRA Headquarters in Dar es Salaam, provided an opportunity for the mining companies to share their experiences and discuss tax-related matters, business facilitation and areas for further cooperation. The companies commended TRA’s approach of maintaining an open dialogue with taxpayers, noting that regular engagement has contributed to better understanding of tax matters, stronger taxpayer-Authority relations and enhanced voluntary tax compliance.

Mr. Mwenda commended the companies for their contribution to the national economy through investment and tax payments. He emphasized that TRA will continue to engage taxpayers, listen to their concerns and address tax-related challenges in a timely manner, while continuously improving its services and tax systems to facilitate business operations and enhance revenue collection.

He further noted that strong collaboration between TRA and the mining sector is essential in supporting sustainable investment, strengthening voluntary tax compliance and expanding the tax base. Mr. Mwenda reaffirmed that TRA remains committed to working closely with taxpayers and other stakeholders to create an enabling business environment while ensuring that all sectors contribute effectively to Tanzania’s economic development.
