02 July, 2026

As the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) marked its 30th anniversary alongside the presentation of the Presidential Taxpayer Awards, the Authority announced a record tax collection of TZS 37.957 trillion for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Speaking during the anniversary celebrations and the Presidential Taxpayer Awards ceremony held on July 1, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, TRA Commissioner General , Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda said the Authority had exceeded its annual revenue target of TZS 36.066 trillion, achieving 105.24 percent of the target. The collections represent a 17.6 percent growth compared to the previous financial year.

Commissioner General Mwenda attributed the achievement to the strategic guidance of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has consistently directed TRA to strengthen partnerships with taxpayers, modernize tax administration systems, collect taxes without the use of force, and increase domestic revenue without raising tax rates.

He added that as TRA celebrates three decades of service, the Authority recognizes and deeply appreciates the invaluable contribution of taxpayers, whose continued voluntary tax compliance and close cooperation have been instrumental in achieving this milestone and supporting Tanzania’s socio-economic development.
