THE KARIAKOO MARKET HAS BEEN BUILT USING THE CITIZENS’ TAXES – PRESIDENT SAMIA

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has stated that the new Kariakoo Market was built using taxpayers’ money and is a major investment made by the Government to create a conducive environment for doing business.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Kariakoo Market on February 8, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, President Samia urged traders operating in the market to continue paying their due taxes on time so that other government projects, including markets, can continue to be developed.
She also directed authorities responsible for tax collection, including the Ilala Municipal Council and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), to work with integrity and cooperation in order to provide better services to citizens and prevent tax evasion.
Additionally, President Samia emphasized the use of electronic systems in revenue collection to ensure that everyone pays the correct amount required.
