GENERAL MWENDA PLEDGES IMPROVED TAXPAYER SERVICES TO BOOST VOLUNTARY COMPLIANCE

23 May, 2026

The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to improving taxpayer services nationwide as part of broader efforts to enhance voluntary tax compliance and strengthen business growth.

Speaking during his working visit to Rungwe District in Mbeya Region on May 23, 2026, Mr. Mwenda said TRA remains focused on building a service-oriented tax administration system that encourages citizens to willingly fulfil their tax obligations.

He noted that the Authority is intensifying efforts to create a positive relationship with taxpayers by simplifying services, expanding taxpayer education, and increasing accessibility through direct engagement with business communities.

According to Mr. Mwenda, TRA is also working to widen the tax base through the registration of new taxpayers and the formalisation of informal businesses, a move aimed at increasing national revenue while creating fairness in tax administration.

He further explained that the Authority will continue supporting traders and investors through its dedicated Business Facilitation Desk, which has been established to address taxpayers’ concerns and improve the ease of doing business in the country.

Mr. Mwenda directed TRA managers across all regions to strengthen field engagement by visiting taxpayers in their areas of operation, listening to their concerns, and providing timely solutions to challenges affecting their businesses. “We have a responsibility to serve taxpayers efficiently because they are key partners in national development. Without taxpayers, TRA cannot achieve its mandate,” he said.

The TRA Regional Manager for Mbeya, Mr. Musibu Shabani, said strong cooperation between taxpayers and the Authority has enabled the region to surpass revenue collection targets for ten consecutive months during the 2025/2026 financial year. Mr. Shabani added that TRA in Mbeya Region will continue improving service delivery and promoting voluntary tax compliance through closer collaboration with taxpayers and responsive support mechanisms.
